Privacy Policy — Fetchmark

The short version: Fetchmark does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data. Your bookmarks, browsing history, and search activity never leave your browser. There are no accounts, no servers, and no tracking of any kind.

What data Fetchmark accesses

Fetchmark requests three Chrome permissions to function. Here is exactly what each one is used for:

bookmarks Reads your saved bookmarks to display and search them in the popup. This data is never copied, stored separately, or transmitted anywhere.

tabs Used only to open a bookmark in a new tab or the current tab when you press Enter. Fetchmark does not read the content of your open tabs.

history Used locally to rank search results by how often and how recently you visit a site. This makes the most useful bookmark appear first. Your history is never read in full, stored, or sent anywhere.

All three permissions are used exclusively within your browser for the duration of a single popup session. When you close the popup, nothing is retained.

What data Fetchmark does not collect

Personal information of any kind — no name, email, location, or device identifiers
Your bookmarks, bookmark titles, or URLs — these are read locally and discarded when the popup closes
Your browsing history — accessed only in-session for result ranking, never stored or logged
Search queries you type into Fetchmark
Usage statistics, analytics, or crash reports
Anything at all, by any method

There is no server-side component to Fetchmark. No data is transmitted over the network by the extension itself.

External resources

The extension use Google's favicon service (www.google.com/s2/favicons) to display website icons next to bookmarks. This means your browser makes a request to Google's servers for each favicon shown. This request includes the domain name of the bookmark (not your full bookmark URL) and your IP address, as is standard with any web request. Fetchmark has no control over how Google handles these requests — refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details. You can disable favicons in Fetchmark's settings if you prefer to avoid this.

Settings and preferences

Fetchmark stores your settings (such as theme preference, result limit, and open behaviour) locally using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. This data lives on your device, is never synced to any external server, and can be cleared at any time by uninstalling the extension or resetting to defaults in the settings panel.

Children's privacy

Fetchmark does not knowingly collect information from children or anyone under the age of 13. Since Fetchmark collects no personal data from anyone, no special handling is required — but we note this explicitly for completeness.

Changes to this policy

If Fetchmark ever changes in a way that affects how your data is handled — for example, if a future version introduces optional cloud sync — this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be clearly noted in the extension's update notes on the Chrome Web Store.

The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last changed.
